Redlich Gift Supports UC Athletics and CCM Scholarships

The

University of Cincinnati

has received a

$4 million commitment

to support

UC Athletics

and the

College-Conservatory of Music (CCM)

The commitment, from Max and Judi Redlich, will be paid from the proceeds of trusts established by the Redlichs. Of the commitment, $3 million will establish the Max E. and Judi S. Redlich Men's Basketball Fund and $1 million will establish the Max E. and Judi S. Redlich Scholarship Fund for CCM.

"We are profoundly grateful to the Redlichs for their generosity and their investment in UC Athletics and the College-Conservatory of Music," said UC President Nancy L. Zimpher. "Their gift shows a strong commitment to the success of our athletics program as well as a deep appreciation for the arts."

The Redlich Basketball Fund will support scholarships for student-athletes in good standing and the balance will be used in UC Men's Basketball for operational needs. The portion of the gift allocated for operational needs will not only provide monies for men's basketball, it will allow the department to reapportion operating funds towards the other 17 varsity sports which would have otherwise been earmarked for the men's basketball program.

"We're deeply appreciative of the commitment of Max and Judi Redlich," said UC Director of Athletics Mike Thomas. "Their gift expresses a strong belief in the direction of the men's basketball program under the leadership of Coach (Mick) Cronin. I am particularly thrilled with the collaboration between athletics and CCM to make the philanthropic desires of Max and Judi a reality."

The Redlich Scholarship Fund for CCM will be used to support scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any program in CCM.

"Max and Judi's thoughtful generosity toward CCM will benefit our students for many years to come," said CCM Dean Douglas Lowry. "This gift demonstrates their heartfelt commitment to helping ensure CCM's excellence through scholarship support of students across the program. Max and Judi are enthusiastic fans of our musical theater program and all aspects of CCM, and we are fortunate to have their support here at UC."

The Redlichs, both natives of Pittsburgh and graduates of the University of Pittsburgh, moved to Cincinnati in 1967, where they opened their own company Penco Inc., a third-party administrator of 401(k)s, pension plans, and profit sharing plans with accounts across the country. Their children and son-in-law now own and run the company. In their 43 years of marriage, the couple has become entrenched in the Cincinnati community and is actively involved in sports and the arts.

"As you get involved in the University of Cincinnati, you find out that the University isn't just about college athletics and men's basketball," said Mr. Redlich. "There are a lot of other things taking place there."

Mrs. Redlich continued, "CCM is our other passion on campus and it is phenomenal. After seeing the CCM students perform like we did a couple weeks ago as part of their show in New York City on Broadway, you couldn't be more impressed by all of the talent on campus at UC, whether it is in the classroom, on the field or on stage."
