CCM and the Fine Arts Fund Host Guest Lecture by Ohio Arts Council Executive Director Julie S. Henahan

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Graduate Program in Arts Administration and the Fine Arts Fund are pleased to welcome guest speaker

Julie S. Henahan

, executive director of the Ohio Arts Council (OAC), to CCM’s Watson Hall on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 5 p.m. Henahan’s appearance is the eighth event in the Joan Cochran Rieveschl Lecture Series: Visionaries in the Arts, an annual event spotlighting arts management experts, opinion leaders and trendsetters.

Appointed to her current position in 2006, Henahan is the first female executive director of the OAC, the agency that funds and supports arts experiences throughout the state. Her discussion focuses on the arts’ role in public values, a concept that can be roughly defined as the values held by a community that are created by its citizens, businesses and community partners. Through the OAC, Henahan seeks to help arts institutions understand  and reveal the public value that they create, so that they may better articulate their position to potential funders and other stakeholders.

“For many years, funders have been focusing on measurable outcomes, so this new shift towards public values is an interesting swing in the pendulum,” said Heather Hallenberg, vice president of Arts Services for the Fine Arts Fund. “Who better than Ms. Henahan to share this changing perspective with the grant-seeking community?”

Following Henahan’s lecture is a discussion of real-world public value examples featuring a panel of local artists and arts administrators, including: Rick Jones, Executive Director, Fitton Center for the Creative Arts; Jan Brown Checco, Artist; D. Lynn Meyers, Producing Artistic Director, Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati; and Rick Pender, Director of Development, Cincinnati Opera.

Admission is free and open to the public, though seating is limited and reservations are required. Please contact Heather Hallenberg at the Fine Arts Fund to reserve at 513-871-2787, ext. 28.
