As we noted in our autumn quarter announcement of this initiative, the AFTL emerged from UC|21 attention to the need for our students to "have great and effective teachers." In accepting the recommendation from the selection committee, we are pleased to honor and reward those UC faculty who have truly modeled excellence in teaching, whether through scholarly teaching or the scholarship of teaching and learning.
We also wish to recognize and thank the members of the AFTL Selection Committee: Andrea Lindell (Dean, College of Nursing, and Chair of the Selection Committee);
Bethany Vice Bowling (Biology, graduate student representative)
; Lawrence Johnson (Dean, CECH); Ann Porter (CCM Music Education, elected by the Faculty Senate); Jen Rollins (undergraduate student representative); Sunny Saelinger (CoM Molecular Genetics); and Marilyn Simon (RWC Criminal Justice, elected by Faculty Senate).
We envision the AFTL playing a key leadership role toward improving the quality and depth of the learning experience for UCs students, whether undergraduate and graduate. This role is described in more detail at the Blackboard organization with information about this initiative ("CETL"). Suffice it here to say that we very much look forward to the contributions of the AFTL as we work together to advance teaching and learning at UC.
Sincerely,
