CCM's 2007 Grandin Festival a Celebration of Vocal Music
The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) celebrates the beauty, purity and power of the human voice with the 11th Annual Grandin Festival, Aug. 1131, 2007. This musical event convenes CCM student vocalists and instrumentalists under the guidance of distinguished guest artists and CCM's renowned faculty for the performance of vocal chamber music.
The 2007 festival features a series of free public concerts beginning Aug. 20, with repertoire chosen by CCM faculty and guest artists Thomas Pasatieri (composer) and Warren Jones (pianist). Musical selections include works by distinguished composers from the 19th century to the present, including Emmanuel Chabrier, Francis Poulenc, Gustav Mahler, Dominick Argento, George Crumb, Nicholas Maw and Pasatieri, among others. Jones and Pasatierialong with CCM facultywill also serve as "coaches," working in rehearsal with student artists to prepare them for the public concerts.

ABOUT THE GRANDIN FESTIVAL
The Grandin Festival is an annual summer event founded by soprano and CCM Professor of Voice Barbara Honn and oboist (and former CCM professor) Sara Lambert Bloom, with the goal of creating a collaborative opportunity for young artists to study and perform the rich repertoire of vocal chamber music.
Over the past eleven years, the Grandin Festival has presented over 70 concerts comprising more than 230 works of all musical periods and styles. Each year, 7080 student singers and instrumentalists have had the opportunity to participate. The roster of guest artists has included composers Ricky Ian Gordon, Jake Heggie, Lee Hoiby, John Musto, and Thomas Toscano; vocalists Amy Burton, Ruth Dobson, Jane Manning, Patrice Pastore, Lucy Shelton, John Aler, David Gordon, and Rudolf Piernay; clarinetist Charles Neidich; and pianists Warren Jones and Brian Zeger. Members of CCM's distinguished voice and instrumental faculty serve as the Festival's resident coaches.
ABOUT THE GUEST ARTISTS
Thomas Pasatieri is one of the most prolific living composers of our time. He has written hundreds of songs including
Letter to Warsaw
, and 19 operas consisting of

. In addition to vocal music, he has composed three piano sonatas, sonata for viola and piano, and quartet for flute and strings. His works have been performed and recorded by Janet Baker, Jane Eaglen, Sheri Greenawald, Thomas Hampson, Evelyn Lear, Catherine Malfitano, Ashley Putnam, Frederica von Stade, Thomas Stewart and Shirley Verrett. Pasatieri formed the Topaz Productions company in Los Angeles, which has produced award winning film orchestrations that can be heard in
American Beauty

The Little Mermaid
,
The Shawshank Redemption
and
Scent of a Woman
, among many others.

Warren Jones
Warren Jones frequently performs with many of today's best-known artists, including: Barbara Bonney, Ruth Ann Swenson, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Denyce Graves, Stephanie Blythe, Håkan Hagegård, Bo Skovhus, Samuel Ramey, James Morris, John Relyea and Joseph Alessi. Jones has appeared with the Juilliard, Borromeo and Brentano string quartets. His collaborations have earned consistently high praise from many publications;

termed him "flawless" and "utterly ravishing, "

called his artistry "exquisite," and The
San Francisco Chronicle
said simply, "He is the single finest accompanist now working."
Jones serves as coach for the Final Honors Concert (Friday, Aug. 31 @ 7 p.m.).
