McDonough Named Interim Dean at UC Clermont College
James F. McDonough, professor emeritus of civil engineering and former dean at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College, has been appointed interim dean at UC Clermont College. McDonough assumed his role August 1, 2007.
I am very delighted that Jim McDonough has agreed to return to the deanship of Clermont College. He brings a wealth of successful experience as well as deep respect for the mission of Clermont College. I am confident that he will forge and expand strong partnerships with the Clermont County community and with the Uptown campus. His will be an important voice as the university continues to explore ways and means of making SW Ohio a model K-16 system, said Anthony J. Perzigian, UC senior vice president and provost for baccalaureate and graduate education.
During his 40-year career at UC, McDonough has served as faculty member, chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; associate dean for academic affairs at the College of Engineering; and dean of UC Clermont College from 1996 - 2002. He holds a doctorate and masters degree from UC and a bachelor and masters degree from Northeastern University. During his teaching career he was involved in the education of engineers in Afghanistan, spending two years (1969-1971) as a visiting professor. In 1979 he worked to create a program to re-educate refugee engineers and to rebuild the engineering college at Kabul University. He taught courses in Pakistan as part of this program in 1992.
I am very excited about returning to Clermont College because it brings the power of UC close to the residents of Clermont County and it provides educational opportunities for those who otherwise would not have them, said McDonough.
During his tenure as dean of UC Clermont College, McDonough served on the boards of many Clermont County organizations including the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce; Clermont County Senior Services; Clermont 20/20; Clermont Educational Opportunities and the United Way. Following his retirement from UC, McDonough continued his service to many of these same organizations. McDonough has been the recipient of numerous national awards for distinguished service and outstanding teaching.
