Symposium for New Journal to Focus on History's Impact on Today's Events
What does history have to say about the pressing issues of today? How can we use history to move forward for social change?
Those are questions that will be under consideration on Oct. 26, when the UC College of Laws Freedom Center Journal hosts its inaugural symposium, "Reconstructions: Historical Consciousness and Critical Transformation."
The Freedom Center Journal is a joint project between the College of Law and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Currently, approximately 15 UC law students are working on the journal as it prepares for its debut edition in 2008.
Academic voices from across the country will be making presentations throughout the day on Oct. 26. The keynote speaker for the evening session, which will be held at the Freedom Center, will be Angela Harris from the Cal-Berkeley law school. Sessions during the day will be hosted at the UC College of Law. Other schools represented among the presenters include Alabama, American, Brown, Columbia, Georgia State, New Mexico, North Carolina, Roger Williams and Syracuse.
