Award-Winning Pianist Mac Frampton Headlines CCM's 'PAN-e-monia' Nov. 2

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) proudly presents PAN-e-monia, the first annual event benefiting CCM's newly established Martha Moore Crabtree Alumni Scholarship. The event takes place Friday, November 2, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in CCM's Corbett Auditorium.

Named for the iconic sculpture of Pan that has welcomed visitors to the CCM campus for decades, PAN-e-monia will feature show-stopping performances by CCM students and world-renowned alumni. Headlining the event is award-winning pianist, recording artist and world-traveling performer Mac Frampton, whose unique performance style combines classical technique with rock and jazz. Of Frampton, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said, "Think of Horowitz mixed with Liberace and an ounce of Victor Borge, and you've got
the picture."

Other luminaries on hand for the evening include former CCM faculty member and world-class pianist/music director Terry LaBolt, who serves as the event's producer, and WGUC 90.9 announcer and event emcee Naomi Lewin.

ABOUT MAC FRAMPTON
With 22 albums, ten original revues and an unprecedented number of return engagements to his credit, award-winning pianist Mac Frampton has established himself as a unique musical talent.

Born in South Carolina to a father who served as a Presbyterian minister and a mother who sang her way through college during the Depression, Frampton started playing the piano at the age of three. His formal training began at five, and he was eight years old when he made his professional debut. After musical studies at Erskine College, Frampton did graduate work at CCM, where he received a doctor of musical arts degree. While a student, Frampton gained national prominence as a medal-winning semifinalist in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Frampton has developed a unique style that has proved extremely durable.Based on classical technique, drawing liberally from jazz and rock idioms, the "rock-alternative" sound of Mac Frampton continues to build a wider-audience with every concert. Over the past 24 years, Frampton and his group have played over 3000 concerts in the U.S., Canada, South America, Europe and the Middle East. He holds the record for return engagements at many locations, having appeared as many as 12 times on a single stage. Frampton has teamed with Bill Cosby, Roberta Flack, Victor Borge, Louis Nye, The Fifth Dimension and Metropolitan Opera star Roberta Peters, among others.

ABOUT THE MARTHA MOORE CRABTREE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in memory of Martha Moore Crabtree, who was a beloved member of the CCM family for over half a century.

Born in Waynesboro, Georgia, Crabtree received her bachelor's degree in music education from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. She came to Cincinnati to study voice with Robert Powell in 1955, the year the College and the Conservatory of Music merged to become what is today known as CCM.

After receiving her master's degree, Crabtree held a number of administrative posts at CCM: assistant dean of women, coordinator of musical activities and facilities, and assistant to the dean. She was president of the CCM Alumni Association from 1984 to 1987, and in November 2005, the CCM Alumni Board of Governors honored her on the occasion of the merger of the two schools for her 50 years of service.

As a singer, Crabtree was an oratorio and recital soloist. In 1958, she appeared in a Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra children's concert under conductor Max Rudolf, and in 1959, she was a national finalist in the American Opera Auditions. She also performed with the Cincinnati Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra, and for 23 years, she was soprano soloist at Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church.

As a tribute to Crabtree, the first recipient of the scholarship will be a vocalist. Future scholarships will support budding greatness in all disciplines to reflect the true scope of her impact on CCM.
