African-American War Historian Westheider Publishes Two Books
James Westheider is an associate professor of history and interim chair for the Humanities Division. His books - The Vietnam War, American Soldiers Lives Series, (Westport, Connecticut: Greenwood Press, 2007) and The African-American Experience in Vietnam: Brothers in Arms, (New York: Rowman and Littlefield Publishers, Inc., 2007) hit the shelves this fall.
Westheider is known as a leading historian on the African-American experience in the Vietnam War. He recently returned from Washington D.C. where he presented at the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference.
It took me around three and a half years to research and write both of the books. The publishers contacted me and asked me if I would write them, so I had the contracts before I ever started, said Westheider.
Westheiders first book -
Fighting On Two Fronts: African-Americans and the Vietnam War
- was published in 1997.
The books can be purchased through the publishers or through any online bookstore such as Amazon or Barnes and Nobles. The African-American Experience in Vietnam: Brothers in Arms is designed for both classroom use and the interested reader.
