Printmaker Features Work in UC Clermont Gallery

“In my prints, failure is equally as important as success.  Over the past six months, my work has taken the form of serigraphs, rendered through spot separations yielding up to nine individual colors.  Depicted are tokens of life’s little defeats, everyday failures, impossibilities and things that don't necessarily need to be celebrated,” said Stuparyk.

A graduate of Loveland High School, Stupayk received his bachelor of fine art from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada and his master of fine art from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan.  He is currently in Residence at the John Talleur Printmaking Studio in Lawrence Kansas.

The exhibits include life-sized mementos of the artist’s individual pursuit of elusive happiness and success. “A rejection slip, a cocktail umbrella, a cigarette butt - they are all singular and deceptively simple as objects.  In my prints they act as stand-ins, the metaphorical evidence of human endeavor, aspiration and desire that, too often, results in only brief fulfillment, pleasure or reward.  If it is truly through failure and defeat that success is ultimately achieved, it is those instances that I try to highlight in my prints,” he said.

The Clermont College Art Gallery is sponsored by Park National Bank and located in the Snyder Building on UC Clermont College’s campus in Batavia at 4200 Clermont College Drive. Winter break hours are Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
