UC Clermont Partners with YWCA to Offer Teen Dating Violence Awareness Program

A Teen Dating Violence Awareness Program is being sponsored by the UC Clermont College Diversity Task Force and the Y.W.C.A. of Greater Cincinnati. It is an attempt to raise awareness of teen dating violence on campus and in the community.

"According to the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence, about one in three high school students have been or will be involved in an abusive relationship.   Next week is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week and I am hoping that our program will help raise awareness of dating violence among students here at Clermont College" said Wanda C. McCarthy, Assistant Professor of Psychology.

The program will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, from noon - 1:30 pm.

Featured speakers include:

• Julie Pedersen who is the Director of Sexual Assault Services for the Eastern Area of the Y.W.C.A. of Greater Cincinnati will be speaking about the problem of teen dating violence.
• Debbi Culberson will be speaking about her experiences as a victim's mother. She is the mother of Carrie Culberson who was murdered by her boyfriend.
• A survivor will be speaking about her experiences.

The event will be held in the Snyder Building, Room 142. The event is open to the public. For more information, please contact Dr. McCarthy at (513) 558-7404.
