UC Celebrates Its Authors, Editors and Composers

It’s an event that truly showcases UC’s vast research, creativity and publishing talent. The University Libraries 17th annual Authors, Editors and Composers Reception and program takes place at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center at the University of Cincinnati. The event, open to invited members of the UC community, highlights the publishing talent of UC faculty in forms that stretch beyond the book, including music scores, artwork, poetry, DVDs, videos, articles and edited journals.

The fields of research are assorted as well, as the reception welcomes 309 UC authors, editors and composers (a record number for this reception) and highlights 468 publications submitted by 14 colleges, the Division of Professional Practice, UC Institutional Research and University Libraries. This publishing talent is represented in five different languages – English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish.

Dean and University Librarian Victoria A. Montavon will emcee the reception which will also feature opening remarks from Anthony J. Perzigian, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost.

Three UC faculty who will discuss their published works at the reception:

  • Mary Brydon-Miller, associate professor of Educational Studies and Urban Educational Leadership – Brydon-Miller will discuss her article published in the SAGE Handbook of Action Research, “Ethics and Action Research: Deepening Our Commitment to Principles of Social Justice and Redefining Systems of Democratic Practice.”
  • Leland S. Person, professor of English and senior associate dean for academic affairs, editor of “A Historical Guide to James Fenimore Cooper” and author of “The Cambridge Introduction to Nathaniel Hawthorne,” will highlight those works.
  • Jim Postell, professor of interior design, will discuss his book, “Furniture Design.”

A sampling of the celebrated works will be on public display in Langsam Library’s fourth and fifth floor lobbies from April 23 through June 15.

“Authors, Editors and Composers” is sponsored by the Friends of University Libraries. This group of library donors supports University Libraries in providing excellent research collections and quality service to the University of Cincinnati. In addition to “Authors, Editors and Composers,” the Friends of University Libraries also funds exhibits that draw attention to UC collections.
