TUESDAY: UC Profs Take the Plunge for Senior Fundraiser

UC Football Coach Brian Kelly is included in the starting lineup of a campus event that’s sure to make a big splash with the students. UC’s Senior Class Officers are sponsoring a “Goodbye to UC Dunking Booth” for students to pay back some of their favorite faculty for their challenging assignments. The “Goodbye to UC Dunking Booth” takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, on McMicken Commons at the University of Cincinnati. The event takes place rain or shine. For a dollar per dunk, seniors will be raising money to support the Senior Class Gift to the university.

The UC Senior Class and Sigma Sigma, a UC men’s honorary organization, are proposing a Bearcat statue for campus to be erected as early as next spring. So far, the class of 2008 has raised more than $4,400. “The goal of this event is not only to raise money for the senior class gift, but also to provide a fun time for seniors to come together and celebrate,” says Martina Jones, Senior Class vice president of internal affairs, who’s graduating with her bachelor’s degree in communication/public relations this spring. Previous senior classes have raised $15,000 toward building a statue.

The event holds music, food and prizes, including a gift valued at $500 from the UC Alumni Association. Senior Class Officers will also hold a raffle for a set of two tickets to next year’s Crosstown Shootout. Donors who contribute to the senior class gift at the dunking booth will be entered into the raffle.

UC faculty taking part in the dunking booth include

  • Susan Bourke, associate professor of criminal justice, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH)
  • Roger Wright, criminal justice professor, CECH
  • Jacqueline Burris, assistant professor, School of Design, College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP)
  • Dale Murray, associate professor of industrial design, DAAP
  • Steven Fuller, adjunct assistant professor of communication, McMicken College of Arts & Sciences (A&S)
  • Evan Griffin, adjunct professor of communication, A&S

UC’s Senior Class Officers work to create a positive and memorable senior year experience, as well as assist with the planning and execution of the All-University Commencement ceremonies.

UC’s All-University Commencement ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14.
