CCM Toasts New Dean Douglas Knehans at Curtain Rising Oct. 14

With thunderous music and sparkling champagne, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) will celebrate a new era at the college with Curtain Rising, a gala event welcoming CCM’s newly appointed dean, Douglas Knehans. Hosted by the Friends of CCM, Curtain Rising coincides with the opening of CCM’s Tchaikovsky Festival, and the evening will feature a stirring performance of the composer’s signature works by the CCM Philharmonia Orchestra, led by conductor Mark Gibson. The event takes place Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at the CCM Village on the University of Cincinnati campus. Please see below for event times and details.

Douglas Knehans joined CCM in September 2008. His Cincinnati appointment follows a distinguished career as director and professor at the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Tasmania in Australia. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Knehans received his initial music education at Australia’s Canberra School of Music. He went on to study composition in the United States, first at Queens College, City University of New York, then at Yale University. A prolific practicing composer, Knehans has received numerous commissions, awards and fellowships in Australia and the U.S. and has seen his works performed around the world.
