World-Renowned Jazz Artist Wynton Marsalis Conducts Master Class at CCM October 6

Wynton Marsalis has been described as the most outstanding jazz musician and trumpeter of his generation, as one of the world's top classical trumpeters, as a big band leader in the tradition of Duke Ellington, a brilliant composer, a devoted advocate for the arts, and a tireless and inspiring educator.

Marsalis has made over 30 jazz and classical recordings, selling over seven million records worldwide and winning nine Grammy Awards. Among his numerous honors, he was the first jazz musician ever to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music, and he won the most prestigious distinction in broadcast journalism, the George Foster Peabody Award, for his educational radio and television programs on jazz and classical music. Marsalis also serves as artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. More information is available at www.wyntonmarsalis.org.

Kristy Swift named assistant professor of music studies at CCM

UC College-Conservatory of Music Interim Dean Jonathan Kregor has announced the appointment of Kristy Swift, PhD and DMA, to the position of Assistant Professor of Music Studies at CCM. In this role, Swift will lead the Bachelor of Arts in Music program offered through CCM's Division of General Studies. The appointment is effective Aug. 15, 2024.
