UC Expands Cheaper Out-of-State Tuition Rates for Students Just Over the Border
The University of Cincinnati is expanding efforts on making college more accessible and affordable to students in neighboring states. Three UC colleges are now taking part in expanding a pilot program to offer a new metropolitan tuition rate to undergraduates from nearby counties in Kentucky and Indiana.
The UC College of Business first announced the new metropolitan tuition rate last fall. Now, UCs College of Applied Science and College of Allied Health Sciences are joining the College of Business in announcing the new metropolitan tuition rate for new and continuing undergraduate students beginning in fall 2009. The discounted rate applies to 28 Kentucky counties and 14 Indiana counties.
The new rate is the Ohio in-state tuition rate plus $10 per credit hour each quarter, to a maximum of a $120 surcharge.
Caroline Miller, UC senior associate vice president for Enrollment Management, says the College of Business is reporting a significantly higher number of applications since announcing the metropolitan tuition rate last fall three times the number of applicants in nearby Kentucky and Indiana counties than at this period last year.
While this is a part of our growth strategy, it is also one more way the UC is trying to make college affordable to the residents of the Greater Cincinnati region, Miller says.
Kentucky counties eligible for the new metropolitan tuition rate are: Bath, Boone, Bourbon, Boyd, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Carter, Fleming, Franklin, Gallatin, Grant, Greenup, Harrison, Henry, Jefferson, Kenton, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas, Oldham, Owen, Pendleton, Robertson, Rowan, Scott, Shelby, Trimble
Indiana Counties eligible for the new metropolitan tuition rate are: Clark, Dearborn, Decatur, Fayette, Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Rush, Scott, Switzerland,
Union, Wayne
