Scott Peterson, the vice president of communications for the Nuclear Energy Institute, discusses how to communicate the benefits of nuclear energy in a joint seminar held simultaneously at UC and Ohio State University. The seminar should be of interest to communicators and engineers alike.

About the Seminar
Scott Peterson will discuss how to communicate the benefits of nuclear energy, including the role of branding nuclear energy as clean air energy in the ever-shrinking traditional media marketplace and ever-expanding social media. His presentation will include the mechanics of decision-maker outreach and rapid response when they are appropriate.

About the Speaker
Scott Peterson was elected vice president by the NEI Executive Committee in 2001 after having served as senior director for NEI’s Communications Division. Peterson directs the institute’s activities in media relations, advertising, editorial and creative services, public opinion research, coalition development and industry communication.

Before joining NEI, Peterson was director of communications for the American Nuclear Energy Council, one of three groups that merged in 1994 to form the Nuclear Energy Institute. He also served as a senior media relations representative at Illinois Power.

Peterson has been published in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and USA Today. He has appeared on CNN, ABC News, CNBC, CSPAN’s Washington Journal, FOX News and National Public Radio.

Peterson received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has completed the Reactor Technology Program for Utility Executives at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
