Sandcarving is the art of cutting beyond the surface of glassware to expose a new level of dimension to a piece. It opens up a whole new layer of color and texture, allowing the art to become three dimensional. The glass is carved by using an abrasive sand-like substance, which roughens and erodes the surface it comes in contact with, which is a metaphor for life, really. Our experiences carve out who we are as a person and I try to reflect that in my work, said Delaney.
Achberger earned her bachelor degree in fine arts from Columbus College of Art and Design in 1980. Her resume includes oil painting workshops with Michael Scott, Chuck Marshall, Cincinnati Art Academy and Morgan Samuel Price. My paintings are places of beauty, serenity and reflection. I paint on location in the tradition of Impressionist masters style. I have been passionately painting in oils full-time since receiving a kidney transplant in 1998, said Achberger who maintains a studio in Loveland.
The art gallery is sponsored by Park National Bank and located in the Snyder Building on the UC Clermont College campus in Batavia at 4200 Clermont College Drive. Hours are Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. 7 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. 5 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
