UC Engineering Leading the Pack When It Comes to Energy

University of Cincinnati faculty and students attend University Clean Energy Alliance of Ohio (UCEAO) third-annual conference, "Putting the Pieces Together: The New Energy Paradigm in Research, Education, Business and Public Policy" being held at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus, Ohio, April 8–9, 2009.

“We will have the largest number of students making poster presentations,” says Associate Dean Tim Keener, professor of environmental engineering in UC’s College of Engineering and treasurer of UCEAO. “It’s an incredible showing for us.” Twenty-six of UC’s students (both graduate and undergraduate) and faculty will be attending, including Keener, Mingming Lu, Raj Singh, Joo-Youp Lee, Vadim Guliants and Paul Bishop.

“Putting the Pieces Together” refers to building on Ohio’s strengths — its manufacturing base, its natural resources, and its geographic proximity to major markets — with the aim of solving the nation’s energy problems and creating high-paying jobs in Ohio. The public is invited.

Ohio Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher and Kathleen McGinty, former chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality will provide keynote addresses Wednesday and Thursday. A poster exhibition will be held Wednesday, April 8, at 5 p.m., to showcase student and faculty research projects from around Ohio.

The UCEAO partnership of 15 Ohio universities, formed in 2007, advocates for research, education and commercialization of new technologies to support a secure and sustainable future for Ohio and the nation. The mission of UCEAO is to advocate for research and education, as well as share expertise, in clean energy generation; to inform energy policy decision makers; and to provide a single collective message about energy issues for our university, government and industrial partners.
