UC Confers Honorary Doctorates, Award for Excellence at Spring Commencement

Four people will be awarded honorary doctorates at the University of Cincinnati Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 13, in Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center. In addition, longtime community volunteer Yvonne Robertson will receive the University’s Award for Excellence.

The Award for Excellence recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the purposes and ideals of the university.

The Honorary Doctoral Degree, described as the highest award to be received from the University of Cincinnati, recognizes individuals for their ideals and outstanding achievements.

UC’s four honorary doctorates will be awarded to

Otto M. Budig, Jr., philanthropist and president and owner of Budco Group, Inc. He will receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during the 9 a.m. ceremony.

Joseph A. Pichler, retired Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Kroger Co. He will receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during the 2 p.m. ceremony.

Paul Polman, Chief Executive Officer of Unilever, will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science during the 9 a.m. ceremony. He will also deliver the Commencement address.

Jeffrey P. Williams, president of Jeffrey Williams & Co. and trustee and chairman of the University of Cincinnati Foundation. He will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science during the 9 a.m. ceremony.

Yvonne Robertson, who has spent more than 30 years serving as a community volunteer in Greater Cincinnati, will be honored with the University of Cincinnati Award for Excellence during the 9 a.m. ceremony.
