Second Annual Student Conference on Diversity and Social Justice

The Diversity Task Force announces the second annual UC Clermont College Student Conference on Diversity and Social Justice, which will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 3 p.m. in the Student Activities Center.  The conference is intended to provide an opportunity for UC Clermont undergraduate students to present their work on issues related to diversity and social justice to their peers, faculty, community members and others in the form of roundtable discussion or a poster presentation.

Monetary awards will be presented to the top three qualifying papers in the amounts of $500, $300, $200. An award of $100 will be awarded to the winning poster.

Students who wish to participate must submit their paper or poster abstract to the Diversity Task Force Conference Review Committee no later than May 15.  A faculty committee will use a blind review process to evaluate all submissions.  Papers and abstracts will be evaluated on the basis of scholarly merit, topic relevance, and originality.

Students may submit revised work previously produced for class assignments and projects. Single or multiple author papers are eligible (one submission per author). Papers should be approximately 6 – 10 pages in length (doubled spaced) and can be longer if necessary. Poster abstracts must be 100 - 300 words in length (a picture or sketch of the poster would be helpful). Papers and abstracts must be submitted in Microsoft Word 2003 format and use an approved APA, MLA, ALWD or Chicago style.

Papers and poster topics must be related to issues of diversity and social justice broadly defined. Feel free to contact Diversity Task Force members Frank Fitch or Fred Krome if you have questions about a topic. Example papers are on reserve in the library.

Papers can be submitted via email (kromefj@email.uc.edu or fitchef@email.uc.edu). Hard copy papers can be turned in to Dr. Krome’s mailbox in the Snyder building or Dr. Fitch’s mailbox in the West Woods Academic Center.
