UC Business College Offers Cincinnati Its Own Stimulus Package with Back to Business

The University of Cincinnati College of Business has created a

free

mini-course consisting of 20 four-hour sessions in a flexible and focused format to update the skill sets of recently displaced experienced professionals.

Through the program, participants may re-energize their lives, rebuild their self-esteem, develop new credentials and be exposed to state-of-the-art business skills.

“The UC faculty members are providing this instruction on a pro bono basis as a community service,” says Jeff Camm, head of the Quantitative Analysis and Operations Management Department, and one of the faculty members involved. “We felt that we had an obligation to help not just affected individuals specifically but also the Cincinnati community as a whole.”

“As a professional who has worked many years with those who have lost their jobs, I have found that it is extremely important that individuals make bringing their skills up to date a high priority,” says Kent P. Friel.

Friel has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from UC’s College of Business. He is also past president of the college’s Alumni Board and a past member of the dean’s Business Advisory Council. “UC College of Business' ‘Back to Business’ is an outstanding program to address the need for those in business careers to update their skills,"  Friel adds.

All of the volunteer course instructors have a strong, track record in the UC classroom as well as an excellent reputation among their peers. The UC College of Business is building on its similar proven models of success with GE, Kroger, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and area medical practitioners in developing short-term, targeted programs to address specific, timely needs.

Applicants for the program must demonstrate need and aptitude. Online applications at http://www.business.uc.edu/backtobusiness will be accepted until May 31, 2009.

The first offering starts with a “meet and greet” reception the evening of June 18, 2009. The courses start June 19, meeting Fridays and Saturdays, and will run through July 25 with a break for the holiday weekend.
