WATCH: Scenes from a Snowy UC Campus
It wasnt quite a blanket, but the Jan. 5 snow was significant enough to cover the grounds across the University of Cincinnati. The video features students weathering the snow as they changed classes during late morning.
Among the landmarks is one of only three statues of UC legends on campus that of Herman Schneider, placed in front of Baldwin Hall. The statue, dusted in snow, honors Schneider as the founder of cooperative education. UC became the global birthplace of cooperative education in 1906 when Herman Schneider, who later became dean of the UC College of Engineering, launched the idea by putting 27 engineering students to work, applying the skills they learned in the classroom and gaining real-world experience through paid jobs in mines and mills.
The sculpture of the Greek God, Pan, has played his flute through many Cincinnati winters. The fountain used to reside in the courtyard of the old Cincinnati Conservatory and has resided on the West Campus since the 1960s. Pan is now located in a little garden at the College-Conservatory of Music. Although Pans adventures are typically associated with spring, today the frog listening intently to Pans playing was perched on a fountain basin filled with snow.
Forecasters are hinting that a more significant snowfall could be coming our way toward the end of the week. For those who arent fond of winter wonderlands, they can always hope that the old saying about Cincinnati weather could come true that the weather changes every 15 minutes.
