Two A&S Alumnae Receive Honors by Alumni Association

Two McMicken College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) alumnae will be honored at the

UC Day Celebration

on June 10 along with five other University of Cincinnati alumni.

The two A&S honorees are

Nancy Hamant, EdD, A&S ’57, CECH ’61 and

’

67

William Howard Taft Medal for Notable Achievement; given to an alumnus solely on the basis of notable achievement in his or her field.

Nancy Hamant was a teacher and administrator at local high schools before becoming an instructor and eventually an associate professor in the College of Education. She has previously received the UC Alumni Association’s Alumni Distinguished Service Award. The associate professor of education emerita retired in 2007 but remains active on campus.

Linda Bates Parker, A&S ’70 (presented posthumously)

UC Alumni Association Mosaic Award; given to an alumnus who has demonstrated leadership while enhancing the community.

As director of UC’s Career Development Center for 22 years, Linda Bates Parker helped develop some of UC’s first distance-learning courses and taught a course on managing diversity in the workplace in McMicken College. She helped lay the groundwork for the university-wide Diversity Task Force before her passing on Dec. 10, 2009.
