UC Ranked In U.S. News' Top Tier
The University of Cincinnati is among the Americas Best National Universities, according to U.S. News & World Report, and UC's reputation is rising.
The latest issue of the magazines influential Best Colleges guide ranks the University of Cincinnati 156th among the top tier of national universities.
The National Universities category consists of the institutions "that offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as masters and doctoral degrees; some emphasize research, according to the college guide.
In previous editions, the University of Cincinnati had been listed among the guides third tier schools. Schools in that tier were listed alphabetically and unranked.
While gathering data for the annual guide, U.S. News asked college administrators to nominate institutions that they think have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus, or facilities. The University of Cincinnati ranks 11th among this group of up and comers, tied with SUNY-Binghamton, Denver and the University of Southern California.
UC was also cited for stellar internships.
Schools nominated in this category require or encourage students to apply what theyre learning in the classroom to work in the real world through closely supervised internships or practicums, or through cooperative education, in which one period of study typically alternates with one of work, according to U.S. News.
The University of Cincinnati has enjoyed high praise from several sources. The Chronicle of Higher Education called UC a research heavyweight (April 21, 2010). For the fourth year in a row, the University of Cincinnati is listed among the Princeton Reviews best institutions for an undergraduate education. Forbes Magazine named UC one of the worlds most beautiful campuses. UC is the only public institution in Ohio named a green university by Princeton Review. G.I. Jobs lists UC among Americas military-friendly campuses for our efforts on behalf of veterans.
The University of Cincinnati is one of America's top 20 public research institutions and the region's largest employer, with a student population of more than 39,000.
