UC Events Pay Tribute to Martin Luther King

The University of Cincinnati African American Cultural and Resource Center (AACRC) pays tribute to the memory of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a special program beginning at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 12, in MainStreet Cinema in Tangeman University Center (TUC). The event is free and open to the public.

UC President Gregory H. Williams will give opening remarks for the program, titled, “The Miseducation: There’s Still More Work to be Done.” The featured speaker is Tracie M. Hunter, a candidate in the hotly contested Hamilton County race for Juvenile Court Judge that is awaiting a ruling from the Ohio Supreme Court.

Eric Watford, program coordinator for the AACRC, says the program will explore inclusion as well as fairness in the local community and in society.

The event will also include a performance from UC’s AACRC Choir, which has performed around the country.

On the Academic Health Center Campus, UC Health will host its 39th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Celebration from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 14, in Kresge Auditorium. This year’s event, titled "The Dream Continues: Let Us Reason Together,” features keynote speaker Juana Bordas, president of Mestiza International and national author.

The MLK Choir, composed of UC Health volunteers and College of Medicine staff, will perform. In addition, winners of the 2011 "The Dream Continues" grants will be announced.
