School of Education Faculty Selected for Editorship of STEM-Focused Research Journal
One of the leading journals in the disciplines of science and mathematics in the classroom will soon have a UC editing team at the helm. Four education faculty in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services have been selected as the editorial team for the School Science and Mathematics Association (SSMA) journal beginning in July 2011. Carla Johnson, associate professor of science education, will serve as lead editor along with associate professor of education Shelly Harkness as co-editor. Associate professor Jon Breiner and assistant professor Sally Moomaw will serve as associate editors of the SSMA journal, along with 12 faculty from other national and international institutions.
Johnson is also guest editor on a forthcoming issue of the SSMA journal focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education to be published in July 2012.
The international journal is published monthly, October through May, emphasizing research on issues, concerns, and lessons within and between the disciplines of science and mathematics in the classroom. The official journal of the SSMA has been published for more than 100 years.
Johnson currently serves on the SSMA Board of Directors, and was recipient of the Outstanding Early Career Scholar Award in 2006.
