UC Admissions Plans for a Crowd of Prospective Students on Presidents Day
Thousands of visitors are expected on campus at the University of Cincinnati on Presidents Day, as high school students take their holiday to explore what UC has to offer.
UCs two Presidents Day Open House programs get underway at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 21, in the Tangeman University Center (TUC) Atrium and lobby of TUCs Great Hall. The formal welcome and program sessions begin at 9:30 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m.
Last fall, UC reported the largest number of students in its 191-year history with an enrollment of 41,357 students, up over four percent from 2009. Thomas Canepa, associate vice president for UC Admissions, says campus visits last fall were up 32 percent from the previous year. More than 8,500 prospective students have visited campus since July 1, participating in our daily previews, open houses and group tours, says Canepa.
Applications to UC are also up slightly over the same period last year.
UCs Presidents Day Open House provides an opportunity for future college students to:
- Meet with UC faculty and staff
- Learn about majors, admissions, financial aid and campus life
- Visit with a representative from the college that most interests the prospective student
- Get a tour of campus and visit a residence hall
For the first time, the event is also featuring dining deals in UCs award-winning dining centers for guests who want to literally get a taste of campus life at UC.
Approximately half of the student visitors are high school juniors who are planning to enter college in fall 2012. Canepa says the other half of the visitors are students entering college this fall, and making their final choice of where to attend. The event has resulted in more than 800 student reservations.
