UC Hosts CCAS Workshop for Deans
Arts and sciences deans from around the nation will visit the University of Cincinnati at the end of March when the
Council of College of Arts & Sciences
(CCAS) hosts a workshop called Using Quantitative Productivity Tools to Guide Academic Decision-Making.
Geared toward deans, associate deans and budget managers, the workshop will introduce attendees to quantitative tools that deans are using to guide decisions about programmatic changes that align with their institutional missions.
Valerie Gray Hardcastle, dean of UCs
McMicken College of Arts and Sciences
and current president-elect of CCAS, will be one of the featured speakers.
The on-going economic crisis in our country is forcing most institutions of higher learning to rethink how they do business from top to bottom. The challenge in all this is to know which data are most useful in helping guide decision-making, Hardcastle says. The purpose of this conference is to give the deciders the tools they need to make tough decisions. Ill be sharing some of the tools we use in McMicken College to analyze productivity, as well as some tools we have developed that are not as useful as we thought that they were going to be.
Other speakers include Paul B. Bell, University of Oklahoma; Allison M. Walters, University of Delaware; Carl Drummond, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne; Ron Nowaczyk, University of New Haven; and Alan White, East Carolina University.
