UC Celebrates the Breadth and Depth of Faculty Talent in Scholarly Publishing

UC Libraries celebrates the silver anniversary of its annual reception to honor the scholarly works and creative talent of UC faculty by showcasing the ever-expanding categories of publishing.

The 25th annual Authors, Editors and Composers Reception and Program, open to invited members of the UC community, will take place from 3:30-5 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center.

The program honors 250 UC faculty who submitted 340 publications from 2010 in formats ranging from articles, books, edited journals, musical scores, artwork, poetry, photographs, quilt squares, DVDs, videos and the Web.

The celebration also marks the first time that a sculptural display has been featured. The sculptures, “Distinction; Have Some Heart” and “Totally Tubular” by Raymond Miller, an adjunct assistant professor of engineering, will be among the displays at the reception. Miller will also be among the featured faculty making remarks at the reception, in addition to Sophia Dziegielewski, professor of social work, Jon Hughes, professor of English and journalism, and Sean Hughes, assistant professor of journalism and design.

The event will feature remarks from Provost Santa J. Ono and Victoria A. Montavon, dean and university librarian.

The breadth of the publishing talent enters a new language category for 2010: Greek. The 2010 offerings are also in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Ukrainian.

Submissions represent every UC college as well as the Career Development Center, Division of Professional Practice, Institute for Policy Research, UC Libraries and Office of Research.

Most of the published works from Authors, Editors and Composers will be on public display in Langsam Library’s fourth and fifth floor lobbies from April 13 through June 12.

“Authors, Editors and Composers” is sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries. This group of library donors assists the libraries in many ways, including providing support for exhibits that draw attention tolLibrary collections.
