Auto Executive Jeff Wyler to be Awarded Honorary Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati

Jeff Wyler, president and CEO of Jeff Wyler Automotive Family, Inc., will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science at the

University of Cincinnati Commencement Ceremony at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 11, in Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center.

The honorary degree represents the highest award from the university.

Automotive News recently ranked Jeff Wyler Automotive Family Inc. among the nation’s largest auto dealers in new car sales. The company owns and operates 24 new car and truck franchises in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The company started out with 12 employees in 1973 and has grown to nearly 900 employees, with more than 20,000 new and used vehicles sold annually.

Wyler was born in Cincinnati and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the UC College of Business in 1965, working as many as three jobs to pay for his college tuition. He also attended the GM School of Merchandising & Management in 1968 and Harvard University in 1987.

Wyler served on the UC Board of Trustees from 2001 to 2010 and as Board Chair from 2006 to 2009. He also chaired the 2003 UC Presidential Search Committee and is a UC Foundation Trustee Emeritus and Ex-Officio Chair of the Proudly Cincinnati Campaign.

His dedication to UC is reflected in his service on numerous other boards across the university including UCATS, the UC Alumni Association and the College of Business (CoB) Entrepreneurship Board. His numerous community commitments include serving as Chair of the Health Alliance of Cincinnati and he is currently a member of the Board of Trustees for UC Health, the Batavia Rotary, the Clermont Chamber of Commerce and the Clermont YMCA. In addition he was recently elected Chairman of the Board Directors of locally owned CBank, a commercial bank chartered in 2007.  He is a member of the ownership group of the Cincinnati Reds, where he worked selling tickets while attending UC.

Wyler’s many other honors from UC include the 1992 Carl Lindner Medal for Outstanding Business Achievement; the Order of the Black Blazer from UCATS and the 2000 CoB Entrepreneurship Excellence Award.  He is a member of the Cincinnati Commercial Club and was elected into the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Business Hall of Fame in 2010.

UC lab-on-a-chip devices take public health into home

University of Cincinnati engineers created a new device to help doctors diagnose depression and anxiety. The “lab-on-a-chip” device measures the stress hormone cortisol from a patient’s saliva. Knowing if a patient has elevated stress hormones can provide useful diagnostic information even if patients do not report feelings of anxiety, stress or depression in a standard mental health questionnaire.
