VIDEO: See First-Year Architecture, Interior Design Students at Work

To measure their progress as designers within the University of Cincinnati’s

top-ranked

School of Architecture and Interior Design (SAID), first-year students just completed the school year with large-scale projects.

The students worked in groups, and each group documented, via video, its design-and-construction project.

Architecture student Laura Soria, 19, of Mason, Ohio, led the video project on behalf of her 18-person group.

In the assignment, first-year SAID students in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) were required to take a construction project from design to built space. The design had to consistently make use of a repeating pattern – in this case, cubes and connecting panels.

According to Soria, “The duplicative elements had to be a perfect fit with one another in order to seamlessly integrate. That meant we had to design and build to exacting specifications.”

The project took the team about three weeks to complete.

Added Soria, “We didn’t have to pull any all-nighters, but we were sometimes at work till 3 or 4 a.m. But I was very happy to be there working with the group at all hours. It was a great project, and I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else.”
