Community Remembrance Slated for 10th Anniversary of 9/11
UC Blue Ash College is spearheading an event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11/2001, and the community is encouraged to attend to help mark this solemn occasion. The ceremony begins promptly at 8:25 a.m., Sunday, September 11, in 119 Muntz Hall on the UC Blue Ash College campus, 9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash.
The service, with the theme "Stand United in Remembrance," observes the sacrifices and heroism shown ten years ago in New York, Washington D.C, Pennsylvania and across America. The event is a way for the community to come together to honor the lives lost and the acts of kindness and compassion shown by professionals and the general public as a response to the tragedy.
A continental breakfast, free to the public, will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m., and the event includes recognition of all first responders, active duty and retired military service personnel.
Confirmed as participating are: Cady Short-Thompson, dean of UC Blue Ash College; Connie Pillich, representative of the 28th District for the State of Ohio; Congresswoman Jean Schmidt; students from Blue Ash Elementary School; Steve Ashbrock, chief of the Madeira/Indian Hill Emergency Medical Services; and Colonel Karen Giles (USAF, Retired), president of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
"The events of 9/11/2001 caused so much change in the United States over the past ten years, some good and some not so good," states 9/11 remembrance event committee chair Julie Gill. Associate Professor Gill, chair of UC Blue Ashs Allied Health department, continues, "I believe that it is imperative for us to remember the events, the people, and the sacrifices of that horrific day as Americans who love the freedoms and liberties that we so strongly support and defend."
