DAAP in the News: New York Times, Fast Company and More

Two young alums from the University of Cincinnati’s

internationally ranked

College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) were recently

featured in The New York Times

for their innovative work.

Tara Finke and Megan Scherer were featured for their designs of  artwork and notebooks with Nevada mug shots from the 1950s. As design, their work is so successful that the company is expanding. It’s also work that is gaining national and international attention not only for the originality of the design concept but for raising broader societal questions.

And just as recently,

Fast Company featured the efforts

of three undergraduate industrial design students who teamed up for an experiment in education called the

Tread Project

. They partnered with a local, inner-city high school and several footwear companies to lead a curriculum focusing on footwear design as a means to bring further educational opportunities to the teens in the form of critical thinking and technical skills that are commonly found within design challenges.

These weren’t the only recent kudos earned by DAAP. Others include

  • Inclusion of UC in Fashionista.com’s rankings of the nation’s top 20 fashion programs.
