UC Design and Engineering Faculty and Students Win Recognition at PACE Forum

University of Cincinnati faculty and students from the College of Engineering and Applied Science and from the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning recently traveled to Vancouver, Canada, to participate in the annual PACE Forum. (

PACE

stands for Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education and is comprised of a consortium of international companies.)

The international forum – which included 34 universities from nine countries – offered  training sessions with state-of-the-art software that has practical applications and uses from entertainment (movie special effects) to safety (accident and safety testing via computer simulations) and medical testing via simulation (say of blood flow passing through artificial heart valves).

UC faculty and students also displayed recent classroom, studio and independent projects.

, associate professor of practice in the School of Design won third prize in the manufacturing engineering category at the PACE Forum for a sustainable urban transport project. Student members of that team were industrial design student Joel Fliehler and mechanical engineering students Zachary Cervantes, Jacob Erbskorn, Adam Hehr, Lauren Kolegraff, Paul Morrison, Jeffrey Nichols, Jordan Schlater, Andrew Tomko and Dylan Van Dyne. Serving as presenters at the forum were Cervantes, Erbskorn, Fliehler and Tomko.

Other awards won by UC faculty were

  • Raphael Zammit, UC associate professor of practice, won “Best Design Presentation."

  • Steve Doehler, assistant professor of design, won “Best Manufacturing Presentation” along with a co-presenter from industry (William Ropp, owner, Strategic Product Planning, LLC).

  • Brigid O’Kane, associate professor of practice, won the “Distinguished PACE Integrator Award” for her role on the PACE Leadership Committee, a role she has held for the past year and will continue in the coming year.

UC alum visits campus to teach students about footwear design
