UC Alumna Founds New Florida Gallery, UC Artists Among First to Exhibit

The

Darby Fine Art Gallery

in Vero Beach, Fla., will soon open, and University of Cincinnati artists will be among the first to exhibit in the new space – a space which is being opened by UC fine arts and business alums.

UC College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) fine arts alumna Linda O’Malley and her husband, UC Carl H. Lindner College of Business alum George O’Malley, are opening a gallery in Vero Beach, Fla., and the inaugural exhibit for the gallery will include UC painting professor

Frank Herrmann

, a past winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship, and DAAP fine arts alum Stuart Fink. Also exhibiting work will be nationally known artists Kevin Cole, Kayla Mohammadi, Christopher Pekoc and John Walker.

In this first exhibit, titled “Six Contemporary Masters,” which opens Oct. 7, Herrmann will show one painting he completed as part of a 2001 residency at Castle Cimelice in the Czech Republics as well as paintings related to the Asmat people and art of Papua New Guinea in the far-western Pacific.

Fink, an acclaimed and accomplished sculptor, combines figurative and urban landscape elements to create intriguing three-dimensional forms. In his most recent work, Fink has employed the time-honored tradition of bronze casting to create a new series of abstracted sculpture that juxtaposes unrelated and secondary shapes to create new forms and associations.

It’s expected that this first exhibit will contribute to the mission of the Darby Fine Art Gallery, which is, in part, to increase the appreciation for artists.
