The 2011 IEEE PCS International Professional Communication Conference (IPCC) is coming this fall to the
. The conference is about the relationship between communication and sustainability. In order to understand nature, climate change and other sustainability issues, it is crucial to develop effective written, oral and visual communication.

Alex Steffen, one of the worlds leading voices on sustainability, social innovation and planetary futurism, is the keynote speaker. Steffens book Worldchanging: A Users Guide for the 21st Century won the Green Prize for sustainable literature and features a foreword by Al Gore. He also co-founded
and served as executive editor until 2010. He will be giving a free talk on Monday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.

Zachary Jarrell came to the University of Cincinnati in 2019 to pursue a degree in statistics. In 2023, he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Journalism. For many undergraduates, the journey through college rarely takes the expected track. Detours happen, and majors change. When plans switch up, it can be helpful to a student’s success to find support. For Jarrell, it was the people he worked alongside in the journalism department who helped him on his journey. It has left a lasting impression on his life so far, guiding him to multiple internships as an undergraduate, real-world experience in prominent news outlets, and eventually a successful career in the highly competitive field of journalism.
