Ninety Years of Excellence: DAAP Recognized for Design and Innovation
Ninety years of excellence by the University of Cincinnati's internationally ranked College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) is today being recognized in special ceremonies led by Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Jim Petro.
In a ceremony at DAAP, Chancellor Petro, UC President Gregory H. Williams, Provost Santa Ono, DAAP Dean Robert Probst as well as other UC leaders College of Engineering and Applied Science Dean Carlo Montemagno, Carl H. Lindner College of Business Dean David Szymanski, Associate Provost Kettil Cedercreutz, director of UCs Professional Practice Division, DAAP Associate Dean Craig Vogel gathered to recognize UC as the new home to an
Ohio Center of Excellence in Design and Innovation
.
Also participating in ceremonies was design student Mahsino Blamoh and DAAP alumnus Jerry Kathman, president of global design and branding firm, LPK, Inc.
Throughout its nearly 90-year history, UC's DAAP which traces its founding back to 1922 has been
and
recognized for its applied inventiveness, fulfilling basic and advanced research and innovation needs for industry and employers.
Regional, state, national and international firms routinely partner with DAAP in collaboration with other UC colleges for product and service innovation research.
And year after year, a national DesignIntelligence survey of employers the people who do the hiring finds that DAAPs programs are in the nations Top Ten. In other words, UC consistently produces graduates who meet and exceed the needs of the profession and is the go to university when design industry employers make their hires.
Ohio is establishing select Centers of Excellence in applied fields to foster economic development, create jobs and strengthen the state's ability to move technology innovations into commercialization.

UC alum visits campus to teach students about footwear design

A 2011 graduate of design, UC alum Charley Hudak has seen his career trajectory go from intern to creative director for Tiger Woods' new athletic footwear brand, Sun Day Red. While he may run with the biggest cat in golf, Hudak doesn't forget his Bearcat roots and comes back each summer to teach youth about footwear design at DAAP Camps.
