Faculty and Staff: Come Participate in Walk for Alumna with ALS

UC's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in the College of Allied Health Sciences will hold a fundraising walk for alumna Amanda Heitkamp on Sunday, Nov. 6.

Heitkamp, who received her doctorate in physical therapy from UC in 2009, was diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig 's disease, after graduation.

Proceeds from the walk will go toward helping Heitkamp and her husband Ryan purchase an adapted van so Amanda can travel to medical appointments and out in the community.

The two-mile "Walk for Amanda" will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at Veterans' Park in Green Township. Organizers will also raffle off gift baskets at the event.

Registration is $20. To register for the walk or make a donation, contact Beth Bextermueller at 558-0535 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Donations also can be made at any 5/3 Bank.

Pre-registration is required by Monday, Oct. 31.
