
December 2011 All-University Commencement
The University of Cincinnati will celebrate Commencement for summer and fall graduates at
9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, in Fifth Third Arena.
The ceremony will recognize students completing their masters, bachelors, or associate degrees.
UCs Office of Institutional Research reports that 2,613 students applied for graduation. The number of graduates is up more than 200 over the same period last year.
Students completed requirements toward 2,639 degrees (some grads earn more than one degree), including:
- 355 associate degrees
- 1,142 baccalaureate degrees
- 973 masters degrees
- 169 doctoral or professional degrees
There are 88 degrees to be awarded cum laude, meaning the graduates had a GPA between 3.60 and 3.7499.
There are 92 degrees to be awarded magna cum laude, representing a university GPA between 3.75 and 3.8999.
There are 42 degrees to be awarded summa cum laude, representing a GPA between 3.90 and 4.000.
The number of degrees representing science, technology, engineering, math and medical fields (STEMM) is 1,145, up 82 over the same period last year.
The oldest graduate, earning a bachelors degree, is 65. The youngest graduate, earning an associate degree, is 19.
The number of females earning degrees is 1,479 (56.6 percent).
The number of males earning degrees is 1,134 (43.4 percent).
Ethnicity of the graduating class
- American Indian: 0.5 percent
- Asian: 3.1 percent
- Black: 8.8 percent
- Hispanic: 1.8 percent
- White: 70.8 percent
- Non-resident alien: 8.4 percent
- Unknown: 6.5 percent
The graduates represent 58 countries and 44 states plus Washington, D.C. That includes 74 Ohio counties.

Putting it all together: The UC Nursing capstone experience

During the BSN final semester, all knowledge and experience acquired comes together at the Capstone course. Through this experience, students reflect on their academic and clinical journey and design an evidence-based project that connects their education with the realities of professional practice. Whether focused on improving patient outcomes, enhancing nursing workflows, promoting professional development, or impacting community health, the capstone project challenges students to think critically, act creatively and demonstrate their readiness to enter the nursing profession.
