High School Students to Converge on UC Over the Presidents Day Holiday

Thousands of visitors will get a look at UC in action on Presidents Day, as high school students take their holiday to visit campus while UC is in session. Check-in for the University of Cincinnati Admissions Presidents Day Open House gets underway at

8:30 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20, at Tangeman University Center.

The formal welcome and program sessions begin at 9:30 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m.

The Presidents Day Open House is an opportunity for prospective students and their parents to learn more about academic programs of interest, student life and financial aid. Plus, they get to see firsthand the campus that is praised as one of the world’s most beautiful campuses.

This is the third year that UC Admissions has split the open house into two programs because of the crowds of high school visitors that have reserved their seat at the event. Thomas Canepa, associate vice president for UC Admissions, says the event is expected to draw as many as 1,300 people, as students and their parents check out the opportunities at UC. Hundreds have already made the required reservations to attend the event.

Last fall, UC reported the largest number of students in its 192-year history with an enrollment of 42,421 students – up 2.9 percent from autumn 2010. Application reports in early February indicate students confirming their admission to UC are up eight percent over this period last year. Campus visits during open house events at UC are up 35 percent over the previous year as visitors explore UC.

The University of Cincinnati is one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education, according to the Princeton Review’s 2012 edition of its annual college guide, “The Best 376 Colleges.”

Only about 15 percent of the nation’s 2,500 four-year colleges are featured in the book, which is the Princeton Review’s flagship college guide.

Reservations are required for the Presidents Day Open House and some sessions are already filled. Reservations can be made online or by calling UC Admissions at 513-556-1100.
