Carl H. Lindner College of Business Career Fair Features Speed-Dating Theme

Sales students in the Lindner College of Business took part in a career fair that featured a speed-dating theme.

The February event was part of a Career Services partnership with the UC Sales Center to feature 30 companies interested in hiring Lindner College of Business students onto their sales force.

‘We’ve had more companies want to participate than we could accommodate,” says Joy Murphy, director of corporate relations in the Lindner College of Business.

To prepare, students were told to research companies for the interview process. With résumés in hand and their best business attire, students were given three minutes to meet with prospective employers as part of the speed networking process. A student time keeper kept the pace moving along.

"Students kicked off and ended the event with our famous UC cheer,” Murphy says.

The event included a social hour with hors d'oeuvres, a match up of 30 students with 30 companies for face-to-face interview time and a 30-minute follow up with dessert to allow students to ask additional questions or pitch additional self-attributes on why they should be hired.

Ashley Walker, career services program coordinator, says the event was a big success and they are exploring future career fairs to incorporate other majors.

“We had a lot of positive remarks about the format of the event and the amount of connections students made,” Walker says.

Martin Jarvis, BBA ’12, was among the 30 who attended.  The international business and marketing major received several follow-up interviews and offers.

“I had no idea that six responses would be the result of this event,” Jarvis says. “I had a great experience, and I am so thankful that I was able to participate.”
