UC's Chapter of the American Marketing Association Nets Awards from International Conference
UC's Chapter of the American Marketing Association Nets Awards from International ConferenceA team of four UC undergraduate students who belong to the American Marketing Association (AMA) returned from the 34th Annual International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans on March 22-24, 2012 with awards and recognition.
Team members Taylor Brooks, BBA 12, Jimmy Love, BBA 12, Wes Mergard, BBA 12, and Amin Shawki, BBA 12, competed in the Strategic Allocation of Business Resources (SABRE) Business Simulation Competition to win second place in their division of 35 teams and seventh overall.
Ryan Deffinger, BBA 15, Kailey Leopold, BBA '14, and Timothy Lange, BBA '14, also attended the conference.
SABRE is a simulated marketplace that immerses participants in a competitive dynamic situation to allow teams to launch or withdraw products and employ advertising, distribution, price and design strategies to fit varying market segments.
This was a fantastic effort, especially considering that we had not entered this competition in previous years, and none of the students had played with business simulators before, says Ric Sweeney, undergraduate marketing program director and assistant professor-educator of marketing who serves as the groups faculty advisor.
The team also received three Merit Awards each for professional development, community service and chapter planning and honorable mention for the groups National Marketing Week activities.
