Not All Wounds Are Visible
UC Clermont College will host a symposium on April 25 from 1-3 pm on campus to educate students, faculty and staff on the challenges veterans and their families experience when the veteran returns to their community.
Jennifer Lewis, Ph.D. will speak on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the current treatments available for veterans. The event is free and open to the community.
As a veteran, I quickly understood the saying in the military that you can never go home again. Although I did not serve during combat, my life experience was forever altered when I joined the Navy. I can only imagine how this translates for young men and women who have repeatedly deployed to combat zones, said Jill Gomez, Ed.D (abd), LISW-S, LICDC Instructor and Area Coordinator for Human Social Services, Social Work and Addiction Studies. Let's make certain that we, as a community, are equipped with the information to assist these men and women as they make this transition back home, said Gomez.
The event will be held at UC Clermont College, in the Krueger Auditorium located in the Peters-Jones Building at 4200 Clermont College Dr., Batavia, OH. Two CEUs for Counselor and Social Worker Board will be offered.
Other panel members include:
Bob Proud, Clermont County Commissioner and founder of the Hole in my Heart Support Group
Karen Cutright, Veterans Affairs Outreach Center
John Bently, Student Veteran Representative
Andrea Bryant, Veterans Service Commission
