UC's Goering Center Honors Local Businessman

UC’s Goering Center for Family and Private Business will honor Otto M. Budig with the Hall of Fame Award at the 13th Annual Family & Private Business Awards 5:30PM Tuesday, August 28 at Cincinnati Music Hall.

The award recognizes individuals or companies who, through philanthropy, community service, employment growth or community image, have made a long-term community impact.

Budig, president and owner of Budco Group, Inc., an organization with multiple interests in the transportation industry, is this year’s recipient. His company has operations in more than 30 locations throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Budig is a 1956 graduate of the Carl H. Lindner College of Business, with a BA in accounting. He served as a U.S. Air Force pilot from 1956–1963 with the Tactical and Strategic Air Commands before starting his career with Budco Group in 1963. He has been president of the company since 1982.

An outstanding community supporter, Budig is praised as one of the most loyal UC alumni. He is founder, president and trustee of the Otto M. Budig Family Foundation, a philanthropic organization named for his father that primarily supports the Greater Cincinnati arts community.

 His civic affiliations are numerous and include serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Cincinnati Ballet, where he established the ballet’s Otto M. Budig Academy in 2002. He serves or has served on the following boards: Cincinnati Parks Foundation, Cincinnati Arts Association, Cincinnati Museum Center, Ensemble Theater, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, the Hamilton County Economic Development Task Force, the Fine Arts Fund, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati Arts Museum, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center, Riverfront Advisory Commission, Cincinnati Port Authority and the SPCA. He is chairman of the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission.

In addition to the Hall of Fame award, six other Cincinnati businesses will also be honored at the annual ceremony for implementing best business practices as defined by the Goering Center.
