UC Marketing Professor Named to a Top Professional Post

Ric Sweeney, assistant professor-educator of marketing in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business, has been named to a four-year appointment on the Board of Directors of the American Marketing Association and will serve as vice president of finance/secretary of the AMA in 2012-2013.

Sweeney calls the appointment an honor to give back to an organization that enriches the lives of marketers worldwide.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for me,” Sweeney says. “UC has never had a faculty member serve on AMA’s board. The AMA has provided me with many wonderful opportunities for professional growth and development throughout my career.”

With more than 15 years of AMA service, including three years as an at-large board member, Sweeney has been tapped to ultimately lead the association’s International Board of Directors. He will be a member of the executive team and serve as vice president of finance/secretary during 2012-2013, with a goal of becoming chair of AMA’s Board of Directors in 2014-2015.

In his AMA role, Sweeney will monitor financial and investment performance and help develop budgets, plans and initiatives as a member of the executive team.

Sweeney, who serves as undergraduate marketing program director for the Lindner College of Business, has a long service history with AMA. He began his AMA service on the board of the local professional chapter from 1997-2003, serving as president and gaining Signature Chapter status for the Cincinnati Chapter in 2002.

He also served on the AMA’s Professional Chapters Council from 2002-2007, serving as president in 2005-2006.  He also served on the AMA Foundation Board of Trustees from 2007-2009 and the AMA’s Audit and Finance Committee in 2006-2008 and 2010-2012.

At UC, Sweeney is the faculty advisor for the UC Collegiate Chapter of the American Marketing Association and a Faculty Fellow with Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

Established in 1937, the AMA, with more than 30,000 members who practice, teach, and advance the field of marketing across the globe, recently celebrated 75 years. The AMA has more than 75 professional chapters and 300 collegiate chapters across the United States and Canada.
