WATCH: Scenes from UC s Into the Streets Day of Service

Despite the cooler fall temperatures, hundreds of UC volunteers spent their Saturday working up a sweat, as they participated in the university’s largest one-day service event, “Into the Streets.” The annual event is led by

UC’s Center for Community Engagement (CCE).

Fran Larkin, program coordinator for CCE, says nearly 350 volunteers spent the day working at more than a dozen community service agencies doing work such as cleaning, clearing, painting, repairing and working to beautify neighborhoods.

The CCE also signed up volunteers in partnership with the UC student organization, Cincinnati Community Outreach, which sent students to the Imago Earth Center, Christian Inn Ministries, Brighton Center, Ronald McDonald House, Smart Money and Working in Neighborhoods.

Volunteers also provided service at Findlay Market Farms, Freestore Foodbank, Giving Fields, Peaslee Neighborhood Center, Mayerson Distribution Center, Drop Inn Center, Prince of Peace, Immanuel Lutheran, Jerry's House, Nast Trinity and First Lutheran.

The event was held in partnership with the city’s Keep Cincinnati Beautiful campaign and the Neighborhood Enhancement Program, as well as Building Hope in the City-Cincinnati, a Christian-based, inner city ministry.

"It was a beautiful day for the Bearcat family to give back to our community,” says Larkin. “ We're thankful for community partnerships with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, Building Hope in the City, the Freestore Foodbank and many others that made this day possible. Most of all we'd like to thank the outstanding students who worked so hard to serve the needs of our community."

“Into the Streets” is an annual service event at the University of Cincinnati in which members of the UC community participate together in a day of service. Since the program was launched, “Into the Streets” has served thousands of people in communities around the Cincinnati area.

The next university wide event is the all-campus UC blood drive, which takes place Oct. 8-12.

Volunteer scheduling for the blood drive

is currently underway.
