Domestic Violence Awareness Event at UC Clermont

Join UC Clermont College for a documentary and panel discussion in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 3:30-5 p.m.

“It is important that we raise awareness about domestic violencej," said UC Clermont Associate Professor of Psychology Wanda McCarthy. "The Center for Disease Control reports that nationwide 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. In Ohio, 345 deaths occurred as a result of domestic violence in 2006. I would encourage everyone to become aware of the warning signs of an abusive relationship. This allows individuals to remove themselves from the relationship before it can turn deadly.”

Batterers Will Kill

is a powerful 30-minute documentary illustrating the warning signs of domestic violence homicide. It reveals the horror of intimate partner violence as it exposes the devastating impact violence has on families.

The documentary will be shown in the Snyder Building, Room 142, at 4200 Clermont College Dr. in Batavia. A panel discussion featuring experts from the community will follow the film. The event is free and open to the community.

The event is sponsored jointly by the Eastern Area YMCA and UC Clermont College Psychology Program and Social Sciences Department. For more information about the event, please contact Dr. McCarthy at 558-7404 or via email
