Cougars Receive Bid to USCAA National Championships in Volleyball

UC Clermont Cougars received an at large bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship tournament. The tournament runs November 2-4 in Canton, N.Y.  and features the top ten teams in USCAA national rankings. This selection represents the seventh consecutive trip the volleyball program will make to the event.

“I am incredibly proud of this team and what they have accomplished,” said UC Clermont Head Coach Joe Harpring. “We started the season rather slowly, but the players really worked hard and gelled into an outstanding team. They have earned this opportunity and look forward to the challenge.”

UC Clermont’s highest finish to date was the Final Four in 2009.

Before the first serve, each senior was introduced to the crowd and escorted to center court by family and friends. Both players received several gifts, including the Cougar Award – given to all players finishing their four years at UC Clermont.

After the festivities, the team began play against NCAA D-II program Central State.

The match was a much tighter affair than the first meeting this season between the teams. Clermont was able to prevail, but by a close 25-17, 25-20, 25-19 score. The Cougars registered 46 digs and added nine service aces in the victory. With the win, the Cougars raised their record to 19-5 with two regular season games to play.

The UC Clermont Athletic Department also sponsored the annual

Tailgate Party

as part of the event. All fans in attendance were treated to hot dogs, chips and soft drinks before the game. An overflow crowd turned out for the evening.
