UC Announces New Student Travel Policy

The University of Cincinnati is rolling out a new student travel policy that took effect this month, with upcoming information sessions for students, faculty and staff.  The policy establishes guidelines and expectations that students must follow while on university-sanctioned or funded travel.

The new policy, which took effect on Oct. 1, will help UC better safeguard student safety, avoid personal and institutional liability, and keep the institution compliant with applicable laws such as federal Title IV federal funding for student financial aid, as well as export controls regulations. Students, faculty and staff will have six months from the effective date to comply with the policy and its procedures. The policy applies to all undergraduate and graduate students.

The new travel policy, created by input from numerous administrative, academic and student offices across the university, evolved from UC 2019 goals of building global student engagement and expanding international partnerships, which will be increasing world travel. The policy, which includes general rules and expectations for students, can be reviewed from this link:

The student travel policy applies to all student travel beyond 100 miles of campus that involves funding by the university; is sanctioned by a university student organization, club sport or department; or is required for academic credit. The policy does not cover student travel to athletic and other events as a spectator, unless the travel is sponsored by the university or UC student organization, or involves academic credit. The policy does not apply to NCAA student athletics travel, which is regulated under NCAA rules.

All overnight or group travel that is covered by the policy must be monitored by a faculty or staff member of the sponsoring unit, or by a student organization representative.

Information sessions for the new student travel policy will be available on all of UC’s campuses and are scheduled as follows:
