NBC News: We Spend Grubby Bills and Keep the Crisp Ones

When it comes to money, research shows that people tend to hang on to crisp, new bills and unload ones that are crumpled, dirty and torn.

The research of Fabrizio Di Muro, marketing professor at University of Winnipeg, and Theordore Noseworthy, assistant marketing professor in UC's Carl H. Lindner College of Business (and University of Guelph), says people will spend more to get rid of worn out bills and hold on to new currency.
